Meet Baxter Elementary, a Title 1 school that is unique because it is a combination of neighborhood students and lottery students. As a result the school is very diverse with many cultures and backgrounds. The lottery part of the school is based upon Multi Sensory Instruction to help struggling students with reading, writing and spelling skills. Students learn by simultaneously speaking, seeing, hearing, feeling and writing. It helps students with Specific Language Disabilities such as Dyslexia.
As a Title I school, they are home to many low-income students. When children are struggling financially they tend to struggle academically. Unfortunately, many of the families can’t afford to buy their kids the necessary tools and supplies to succeed in school, which is why the Devery Prince Agency is stepping up to help these wonderful kids!
We are holding a school supplies drive during the months of June and July to provide these students with tools that will encourage them to work hard, and have a better attitude towards school and learning. We want Baxter students to start the 2014 school year off with the confidence needed to thrive!
Supplies most helpful to the students include backpacks, pencils, markers, crayons, paper, glue sticks, scissors, winter gloves, boots and snow pants, but any donations will make a HUGE difference!
If you can’t make it into our Anchorage or Wasilla office, no worries … you can still donate on this page!
The money donated will be used to purchase more supplies for these awesome kids.
By giving, you can also receive! If you stop by the office to donate, we will enter you into a drawing to win a $50 gift card at the end of our drive. If you refer a friend to our agency, you will be entered TWICE! So, stop by our office, say hello, and bring us some school supplies!!
